Pigeons, letters and SMSs

Last night and rather late at night while returning home, I switched on to FM 94 and they were playing some very old songs - I mean songs of 50s. And suddenly the song came on the air in which the beloved was asking the pigeon to take her letter to her lover and make sure it is delivered. I hope some of my friends would recall the song: "WASTA E RAB DA TU JAEIN VE KABOOTRA by Munawar Sultana for Film Dulla Bhatti."

And listening to the song I just smiled. The song was of an era when telephones were rather non existent in our villages and even letter took days or even weeks to reach the destinations. And then time started to change - pigeons were replaced by black telephones and letters and postcards. But the the time delay still irritated the lovers as it would take time for letter to reach and book a call on an already heavily overbook exchanges.

And then the present days - the days of social media and SMS. Now one does not have to wait as the messages are delievered in real time and one can even live shat with one's lover or Dhola at any time - no matter the distance - even far across the seven seas.

This is the quantum jump we have witnessed during the last five decades. I wonder if people who left this world in the 40s and 50s are to live again, how would they react to the modern means of communications and instant messaging and live video chats!!

Happy texting.

Luxury and Technology on the move

The other day I saw a video shared at Facebook about the luxurious airplane of American presidential candidate Mr Trump - it was a feat of technology, innovation and comfort. But that was for the filthy rich people of the world.

Today I came across an equally luxurious platform - this time a bus with all the luxuries and comforts one can ever dream of. For travelers with a heavy pocket, nothing can be a better option than this huge bus that can take you around the world as if you are in a moving home.

I could explain how this white camping bus looks like from inside, but that would spoil the suspence. Just watch the video below and see for yourself how luxury looks like:

Best camper in the world? Fermi tutti, LO VOGLIO.

Would you want one like this bus? Well costing far less than Mr Trump's airplane, this bus certainly provides all the luxuries Mr Trump enjoys in the air!!

The Glass Bridge that would take your breath away

Do you suffer from Acrophobia? Well if you do not know what Acrophobia is, you may still be suffering from it. Acrophobia is an extreme or irrational fear or phobia of heights, especially when one is not particularly high up. So whether you know it or not, many people in the world do suffer from looking down from heights and have their legs trampling when looking down from a tall building or Eiffel Tower.

OK suppose, we take it that you do not suffer from  Acrophobia - but here is your acid test. Walk over this hanging glass bridge in China and you would know. Many people are simply resistant to walk over this glass bridge over a 590 feet crevice. At 948 feet, it is the longest bridge of its kind anywhere else in the world.

As they say, it is a Brave Man's bridge as people can barely make it across without freaking out. The glass is one inch thick and there is nothing below it - so if it cracks, God forbids, you are on your own to .......

Watch the video below, I came across on Facebook, and decide whether you would take a stroll over it to know if you suffer from Acrophobia - it will simply take your breath away!

Would you walk across this bridge???

Here come the solo passenger drones for you

The dreaded word drones have plagued the world for long as the military drones armed with missiles have been targeting terrorists but often killing the wrong ones and killing civilians, children and women instead.

But here comes another dimension to these machines: Now you can fly a drone all by yourself and go up to heights of 11,000 feet - a height that an ordinary cessna plane can go to.

When this happens and these passenger drones are available in the market, life will be much more busy and easy at the same time. Busy for the reason that almost everyone loves to fly but due to heavy cost of an airplane, one is kept at bay. But these low cost drone will let those with a little extra to afford one and make their lives enjoyable and easy - and fun loving too.

Watch the video below I came across on Facebook and see how these drones would revolutionise the fun of flying and life:

Beware!! You are being watched

Beware of Spy Cameras

We often see gadgets in the spy movies, specially the James Bond's 007 - and take these as gimmicks and film-only gadgets. But in reality, those gadgets are just one of the crude forms of unaccountable such gadgets produced each year to help the agents and spies who roam freely in streets and markets around us.

Did you notice the guy wearing a golf cap the other day and you thought he looked a bit suspicious? Was he wearing a cap like this:

Beware of Spy Cameras

Now look at the cap and see he had a tiny camera hidden in his cap - you failed to observe. Well this is just one spy gadget that you came across. There are many many more being used to spy on subjects unnoticed.

Beware of Spy Cameras

And this man at the party, immaculately dressed with a smart pen in his jacket front pocket. He was taking picture and even making videos of people around him unknown to all of us. Or the gentleman you thought was a businessman from Dubai - but had a camera embeded in his necktie, taking clear pictures of everyone he conversed with.

Beware of Spy Cameras

And at the shopping center, while making your bill, the shop keeper had a clear view of you and had you well within his capture reach while adding up your merchandise.

Beware of Spy Cameras

Well this is not all - read my post at Hobby Shobbys with many more such like gadgets spies make use of while we remain oblivious of their nefarious activities.

Floating Cities of the Future

Awhile ago, I shared a post about the Palm Beach City, Dubai - built over the sea. Those who have visited Dubai and have seen the Palm Beach city would realize the limits of human imagination which can even build cities over the sea or take roads under it.

While writing t post, I promised to talk of the cities literally floating in the sea, just like ships and boats do. The idea may look weird and non-doable, but may be someday it becomes a reality - the same way the 12 second flight of the Wright Brother's flying machine has since been realized into the gigantic aircraft of today.

Individual units floating independently

Building huge cities straight away may not be possible, but doing it bit by bit and then joining different segments into one huge segment may not be a far fetched idea. And one day may be we find floating cities in the seas - though they the only problem would be of their susceptibility to tsunamis and sea storm.

Independent segments uniting to form one big floating platform or city

Watch the video below of a mega floating city projected idea - may be our children or we in our old ages have a glimpse of such cities:

The dye for the future floating cities has been cast - it is the time frame which remains to be decided, besides colossal funding for the floating cities of the future.

Smartphone Supremacy Poll

There is a war going on between the two giants of smartphone makers - Apple and the Samsung. In fact the big name has narrowed down to just a few including the two I mentioned earlier and Motorola Droid and HTC to an extent.

With the launch of Samsung Galaxy S-III, thew war intensifies and now Apple gurus must be sitting with their head together to find out an antidote for all that went wrong in Apple iPhone 4S and what all Samsung is offering. I may add here that Apple's much touted iPhone 5 is due later this year.

But for now, which one takes precedence over the other - iPhone 4S or Samsung Galaxy S III or you may include Motorola Droid and HTC's One X in the race too.

C|Net is taking a poll presently, and I voted too - the result came out to be something like the one below:

Screen shot from the poll at c|net
Well I wont tell you which is my favourite, but you may make this poll meaningful by voting your choice.

iPhone 5: Ultra thin with Laser Keyboard and Holographic Display

When iPhone5 was announced previously, but instead came out iPhone 4S, the potential customers were largely disheartened as the new gadget did not provide much of an edge over the then existing iPhone 4.

It is too early to predict what the new iPhone would be like. But a video on YouTube gives us some clue as to what all could be contained in Apple's new gadget - something that can immensely redress the grievances of all iPhone lovers.

The video below by San Francisco design shop Aatma gives us some insight of a future iPhone.

The iPhone 5 may be extra thin and sleek with a better camera. But what is being speculated is the incorporation of a laser keyboard and / or holographic display. No one knows for sure whether Apple is towing this futuristic line or not for its new iPhone 5, but if it does, there may be a paramount shift of Android lovers to iPhone 5.

What else one would like in iPhone 5? Why not list your wish list and talk about it on the net - may be some Apple engineer gets hold of your idea and incorporates into the new iPhone 5.

Beware Credit Card Holders: Your card details can be 'stolen - thanks to new contactless technology

At a time when use of credit cards and the notion of paperless money is expanding the world over, there are now concerns that someone passing by you in the streets may 'rob you of your credit card details' and use these for stealing your money.

Insecure: Radio frequency identification (RFID), transmits bank details via its own radio signal and could be a fraud risk
The RFID technology may make it easier to rob your credit card details [Photo: Getty Images/Mail Online]

Although the emerging 'contact-less technology' is yet to come to this part of the world - but it wouldn't be long for a handheld device of mere seven pounds to throng the local markets and made use of by the criminals to rob you even when your credit card is securely tucked in your wallet in the hi pocket of your trousers or the hand held ladies' purses.

Mail Online in its recent post has warned about the misuse of contact-less technology:

Millions of credit and debit card users could be ‘robbed by radiowave’ because of new contactless technology being brought in by banks.
Almost 20million shoppers are now able to buy goods by simply waving their card in front of a reader at the tills, even if it is still in a wallet or a purse.
But industry experts have warned that the information emitted by the cards can be stolen by fraudsters using handheld receptors that cost as little as £7 on the internet.
It means cardholders – most of whom are given a contact-less card automatically when their old one expires – can unknowingly surrender their personal bank details to a thief by simply walking past them in the street.
The technology in the card, known as radio frequency identification (RFID), transmits bank details via its own radio signal, and is accepted in many High Street chains, including Co-op, Boots and Pret-a-Manger.

I'll be watching you ..

Man has so far been exploring outer space, watching the unexplored mysteries and limits of the universe with Hubble Telescope and sending spacecrafts and even men on planets to know more about what we see from earth.

But perhaps that is tiring as one cannot explore the extent of the universe that has no bounds. Therefore, man is now going back to the phenomenon of someone watching us from the outer world - but this time it will be 'us' watching 'us' from the International Space Station (ISS).

This reminds me of the famous song by Sting and Police:
Every breath you take
And every move you make
Every bond you break
Every step you take
I'll be watching you
So be ready from now on the be watched from the space!!

UrtheCast is launching the world's first ever high definition, streaming video platform of planet Earth. The camera will be installed on the outside of the International Space Station through a joint effort with the Russian Space Agency. The camera will provide a 40 km wide, high resolution, color image down to as close as 1.1 metres.

Watch the video below of the concept developed by the UrtheCast:

HD cameras mounted on the station to stream near real-time video of Earth 24 hours a day, seven days a week. It will be the first-ever HD streaming video feed of Earth from space, and will let viewers discern objects as small as one meter wide.

The cameras will continuously film Earth as the station orbits the planet about 15 times per day. Footage will be down-linked to ground stations, then immediately streamed via Urthecast.com co-founder Scott Larson  expects to provide footage every second for five to ten years.

Innovative Motorcycles and Automobiles: From Russia With Love

There are many innovative designs of vehicles that come out every day which hobbyists and enthusiasts buy immediately to kind of show off their machines to friends and neighbours. But that is all of a bigger market concept.

But when it comes to innovative designs and that too custom made, one is really flabbergasted and amazed. Those who can afford to buy these custom made machine can be really proud of their possessions as these are only but few and entirely different from the pragmatic designs.

Talking of such innovative, aesthetically designed and marvels of technological machines, one may see the machines made by Mikhail Smolyanov, a Muscovite, whose concept cars and motorcycles designs are becoming very popular these days and more and more enthusiasts are turning to Russia, rather than the advance western or European markets to buy these highly innovative gadgets.

Google Glass: It is all 'in front of you'

Where is technology taking us - what was fiction till a few years back is now turning into reality. From flying cars to reality glasses. It seems that a day would come when the office work will also be automatically done be a memory chip installed on our desktops, connected through a chip installed in our brains. The chip will automatically connect our thought process to the computer chip and take decisions based on market trends collected by computer chip, assisted by our mindset thoughts.....

Google: Project Glass
Whaever I said may be one day reality. But for now, let us talk about the reality glasses that are making headlines around the world. These futuristic glasses being developed by Google are to revolutionize our 'seeing' abilities manifold. I came across these glasses through a promotional video on YouTube and was really impressed.

Imagine you are a tourist, visiting a foreign country of which you know very little about. Instead of getting lost in finding your way out, if you have these glasses, your tour is just going to be more fun than a chaos. And what is more, you can talk to your wife or  a friend while walking through the busiest of alleys without holding your cellular phone in your hand, with the hazard of its slipping out of your hand or even mugged away in the rush hours.

Here some of the screen shots of the promotional video [you may have to scroll down a little bit more to see the video itself]:

The options that would be displayed in front of you through transparent glass - just like the HUD (Head-Up Display) in the fighter pilot's cockpit that comes in front of the cockpit front glass screen
Going to the subway? But the service is suspended, you are told by your glass - so what to do?
Here is a map that flashes in front of you to take a walk to your destination - and you will be continuously guided for directions and distance remaining.

Like something - take a shot from your glass - simple!!

Google is still experimenting with these glasses through their own workers and asking passerby for comments by allowing them to wear these and see a different world altogether. Before I say any more, see the video below and see for yourself how much this tiny device has in store for you:

Amazing!! Isn't it? Well it may take time to get adjusted to the idea - many may find it making life too complicated. But may be one day this become a reality for everyone to wear and get benefited from its many facets. Specially for tourists this may be something very useful.

Time will tell - and we wait...

Beware Expecting Mothers: Prolonged use of Cellular Phones can cause ADHD

Use of cellular phones has become so important part of our lives that we do not want to part with this tiny device even while driving, watching movies, visiting friends or even while resting. Women take more time on the cellular phones than men, studies reveal.

But the findings of a new study may be a FORE WARNING for expecting mothers. as per the research carried out on expecting mice, the unborn offspring of mice which were subjected to the radiation of cellular phones, showed signs of ADHD when they grew up.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or commonly known as ADHD is a problem with inattentiveness, over-activity, impulsivity, or a combination. For these problems to be diagnosed as ADHD, they must be out of the normal range for a child's age and development. ADHD is the most commonly diagnosed behavioral disorder of childhood. It affects about 3 - 5% of school aged children. ADHD is diagnosed much more often in boys than in girls.
Researchers at Yale studied the effects of cellphone radiation on the offspring of pregnant mice and determined exposure to could result in developmental disabilities including ADHD, their study says in the March 15 issue of Scientific Reports, writes  at Mashable.
A silenced cellphone in active call mode was placed on top of a cage of pregnant mice. An inactive cellphone was placed on top of another cage of pregnant mice to act as a control. The mice in both cages had babies, which were allowed to mature. Then researchers conducted a variety of tests to measure brain activity on the adult mice who had been exposed to radiation as fetuses.
The tests showed that the mice had lower memory capacity and were more hyperactive than the control group. The areas of the brain that control these functions were impacted by the radiation, say the researchers. They concluded that cellphone radiation negatively impacted brain development of offspring, and could potentially cause developmental disabilities including ADHD.

It may be added that Cellphones have been linked to causing everything from the mass death of bee colonies to a willingness to sacrifice one’s sex life and relationships. Dozens of studies and researchers have debated the issue of whether or not radiation from cellphones causes cancer. It’s an issue still up for debate.

This post is being shared in the interest of the health of general people, specially women, and those who are expecting.

A Day in the Life of the Internet [INFOGRAPHIC]

'A day in the life' was the title of the famous band Beatles song that was part of the famous Beatles album 'Sgt Pepper's lonely Hearts Club Band', released in 1967.  Since at that time there was no internet or Youtube, but records, it took the Sgt Pepper's double jacket colourful record to come to Lahore. And of the five brothers, I was the lucky one who walked over to Hall Road and bought the record for Rs. 75.

It had many beautiful songs like 'When I am 64, 'She is leaving home, Good Morning Good Morning, Lucy in the sky with diamonds, and of course A day in life.' This album became an instant hot favourite when it was released in 1967. In 1994 it was ranked number one in the book All Time Top 1000 Albums. In 2003, the album was placed at number one on Rolling Stone magazine's list of "The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time". Sgt. Pepper is one of the world's best selling albums, having shipped 32 million copies.

And coming back to A day in Life. It was a beautiful song and still reverberates in my memories. But that was a day log time before. Today this post of mine is about the present - A day in the life of Internet. internet has become 'the day' of our lives as everyday we sit in front of our desktops, laptops, tablets and even smartphones, get connected to the world wide web and spend endless time each day connected to the world.

Perhaps internet is one such invention that has superseded all others before it - no other gadget or technology is so widely been used ever than internet. I came across one survey [infographic] at Mashable and thought of sharing with the readers - a survey which is about A Day in the Life of the Internet. And is so much revealing and informative - something so important related to our lives.

Just glance through the Infographic and see what goes on the world of internet every day. And by the way keep listening to the song by the Beatles as you scroll down through the infographic below:
