Exotic Women Fashion Ware in Pakistan

The women fashion wear in Pakistan has gone a long way from ordinary two pieces matching suits to a wide variety of un-stitched and stitched suits consisting of many pieces and elaborate, eye catching designs in exotic and vivid colours. Now the trend among women in Pakistan is visit big retail shops of a number of leading outlets and designers' tailor made suits for all occasions.

Recently at the opening ceremony of a leading retailer, the women thronged the place much before it was opened and had to wait both outside the store for hours to get in. And once inside, the queues were so long that the trailing end customers had to wait for more than two hours to reach the counter.

And that was not all - the shopping bags were overflowing with suits - some even boasting to have collected three to four dozen packets - ostensibly for those back home but actually for their own self or to get these exchanged when the crowd thinned after the opening sale was over. Another such showdown has been announced for 14th of August and the potential buyers are already planning to come closer to the outlet by spending an overnight stay with friends and relatives living closer to the outlet.

The variety available is not restricted to women only - now the leading retailers have also added suits for men and kid beside pottery and decoration pieces to add to the galore of the outlets. The business is so thrivingly in that the leading retailers have opened their outlets in the Arab countries or even UK and USA.

For working women who do not have time to go to the tailors for their suits stitched, there is a wide variety of stitched suits, shirts and trousers abundantly and readily available off the shelf.

The suits are so displayed to attract attention of one's choice from a distance and the racks and suits are in abundance to choose from. But on sale days, one cannot even see the racks as these are obscured by the women trying to select their choice and grab the suits from the tables before someone else picks up the most liked suits.

 

Due to their quality and designs, Pakistan's exports have registered a positive grown and everyday one finds a new competitor entering the women fashion ware business to make hay while the sun shines. Making use of one of the finest quality of cotton and textile in Pakistan, the business is thriving and continuing. 

The unstitched suits are not restricted to shirt/trouser and dopatta only. Now the suits also include embroidered strips that can used on sleeves or right on the shirt itself as add on to add to the galore of the suit. The suits come in cotton or lawn fabrics with chiffon dopatta or cotton dopattas - one thus has a wide variety of combinations to choose from.

It is the time for fashion design in Pakistan and the industry is thriving. If you happen to be visiting Pakistan, do visit some of the leading retailers like Khaddi, Sapphire, Ethnic, Nishat Linen and many more which can be easily found in every city, specially large shopping malls or at a place where you find lot of women thronging a store!!!

Champs Élysées - Paris' fashion street

When I was a little boy, the general knowledge quizzers in schools were always puzzling - and difficult to pronounce when it came to names in French. And one of the question was: Which is the famous shopping street of Paris - and the answer was Champs-Élysées.

Now the pronunciation of this word is 180 degrees out if someone does not know the French language. So while we finally began to memories the actual pronunciation, we continued to spell it exactly as it is written in English - and start to get full mark for answering the question.

That besides, I always wanted to visit France for its Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe, where the victory parade is held and we watched on TV and films and of course our hard earned and difficult to pronounce Champs-Élysées. So when I visited France in September last year as part of the first leg of the Schengen countries, all these three landmarks and the Notre Dam (having seen the film Hunchback of Notre Dam) were on my visit list.

I have already wrote about my maiden glimpse of the Eiffel Tower and Paris as seen below besides a visit to the Arc de Triomphe, here is how I saw the difficult to pronounce Champs-Élysées.

Those who have been Paris would know that Champs-Élysées is located off the Place Charles de Gaulle square and towards the east of Arc de Triomphe. It is almost 2 kilometres in length and some 70 metres wide. On its both side one can see major French brand names on huge shopping malls. It also houses famous theatres and cafés and is also used for the military parade that takes place each year on the avenue on 14 July to celebrate Bastille Day.

As can be seen, a lot of visitors from across the world walk on pavements on both sides of the roads and go to its other end that finishes at Place de la Concorde. For those growing old like me, there are benches placed as can be seen in the photo above on the left side so that one can gather one's breath before resuming walk forward. I too sat down on  a bench, while my sons and wife explored countless shops and malls displaying most expensive shopping goods of the world. And therefore ordinary tourists rely more on window shopping rather than actual buying.

There were car displays of major brands as can be seen below where my sons posed for a photo or two in front of the shining Mercedes Benz.

The end was too long and tiring and we finally decided to turn back and had the Arc de Triomphe in view as can be seen in the photo below since we were hurry to go back to the Eiffel Tower for the evening boat ride around Paris and see the illuminations that make the Eiffel Tower glitter like gold.

And how could I be missed out of not being 'shot' with Champs-Élysées in the background as a remembrance of a lifetime. Here I can be seen with my wife and younger son. My description of Paris would continue - my next post would be about Paris boat ride and evening illumination of the Eiffel Tower.

A Century of Fashion in 100 Seconds [Video]

Fashion more often than not refers to the art of wearing. More than men, it remains the women's domain who cannot resist to buy bundles of dresses each season and wear these once and discard.

Paris is considered to be the seat of fashion. The first fashion designer who was not merely a dressmaker was Charles Frederick Worth (1825 - 1895). Before the former draper set up his (fashion house) in Paris, clothing design and creation was handled by largely anonymous tailors and seamstresses, and high fashion descended from styles worn at royal courts. Worth's success was such that he was able to dictate to his customers what they should wear.

How has fashion changed, let us say over a century - well it can be anyone's guess. I recently came across a video that encompasses the fashion change in the last one century in mere 100 second. This video is simply amazing and fabulous and am sharing it for my readers.

Fashion week and Bridal Couture 2012

Bridal dresses are something that are unique in Pakistan - exotically coloured, heavily embroidered and rich in style that correlate with the rich traditions and culture of Pakistan. These dresses are designed, crafted and stitched with such keen eye and aesthetics that the on lookers are taken aback with awe.

Awhile ago, I shared a number of photos displaying the wedding dresses of Pakistan in my post 'Exotic and eye catching colourful wedding dresses' which has since been viewed widely. Recently, there has been a continuous wave of fashion shows displaying traditional, seasonal dresses and bridal couture designed by some of the top class designers of Pakistan. So I thought of sharing news about these fashion shows that have otherwise been acclaimed and liked by fashion lovers and dress designers.

The Bridal Couture show recently held in Karachi had bridals done up by Saba and Nomi Ansari, beside exotic designs displayed by models by designers Amir, Mona and Nadia.

There also have been many fashion runways in Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad that attracted a large number of local and foreign audience to see some of the artistically designed dresses by Pakistan'n leading fashion names. Here in under is a flash video, the one I found on YouTube and am sharing it for the fashion overs both home and abroad.

Pakistan Fashion Week 2012 - Islamabad

Pakistan has developed a large fashion industry with special reference to the ladies attire that has been a centre of attraction not only for the local audience, but also from visitors abroad. The designers' choice is so immaculately and exotically designed that even fashion show of Pakistan's designers have moved over to India, where there is a large customer market available for Pakistani designs, clothes and lawn prints.

Recently a Fashion Week was held at Islamabad at the Pakistan-China Friendship Centre which attracted a large number of audience. Almost all leading fashion designers displayed their full range of clothes and designs.

Exotic and eye catching colourful wedding dresses of Pakistan

Pakistani weddings are synonymous with women wearing vividly coloured, heavily ornamented bridal dresses that come in many colours. But these are mostly dominated by the red colour and its closely related sub colours. The dresses, the ornaments, mostly gold heavy and the makeup add to the radiant glow of the bride. The brides look like life sized dolls clad so beautifully and aesthetically that one cannot but continue to gaze and appreciate her attire for the day.

Like the bride, the groom is more often than not is also dressed in traditional sherwani (a long close-collar coat) with a turban (the headdress) and looks not less than a prince of the olden days.

While the choices for the groom are limited, the bridal dresses for the brides and her friends have a wide range. These dresses are known as sharara, gharara, lehnga choli, mermaid cut lehnga, choridar pajama with angrakha. Besides these dresses are heavily embroidered. Some of these embroidery works are gotta, dabka, kora, beads, thread work, discs, resham embroidery (resham ka kaam) hat add to the elegance to traditional wedding dresses.

If you happen to be visiting Pakistan, insist your hosts to take you to a wedding – you will cherish the memories for a long time. Remember the weddings are followed by a very heavy and lavish dinner.

The very indigenous people of Pakistan

Every country has its indigenous people, who continue to live they way they have been living since centuries without being polluted by the changes taking place in the urban areas and the fashion. The indigenous people of Pakistan that constitute something like 70% of the total population and live in the rural areas are these people who reflect the true culture, traditions and aspirations of Pakistan.

Clad in simple shalwar kameez (a loose trousers and long shirt), the attire though changes locally from a place to another, is the common sight when travelling anywhere in Pakistan.

As for women, the women in Thar Desert wear gaudy coloured clothes with white bangles worn up to their elbows. Likewise the women of Kafiristan of Kalash in Chitral, generally the women folk wear black dresses as is apparent from their name (the wearers of black robe with homemade ornaments and stitch-work).

Normally men wear a headdress in almost all over Pakistan. In winters they wear a lose cloth made of wool or a coarse cloth to save them from the severity of the weather.

Find herein under some of the cloak which Pakistanis are found wearing. These vary from simple to brightly coloured clothes when attending festivals or functions.
