The two Semi finals to watch for at Wimbledon 2015

The third Grand Slam of the year is entering its critical phase as some of the elite tennis stars enter the semifinals. But here I would like to mention two semi finals which will draw a lot of crowd and could mean end of an era or usher in a new one.

The first semi final is between Roger Federer and Britain's Andy Murray. Federer, the aging 33 years old yet superbly fit tennis star and currently ranked world no. 2 who has bagged 17 Grand Slam titles so far - ahead by three Grand Slam titles of Pete Sampras' 14.

Andrew Barron Murray OBE currently ranked World No. 3 has two Grand Slam titles to his credit but has his sights at the Wimbledon title once again after 2013 right in front of his home crowd. Andy Murray has reached his sixth Wimbledon semi-final in seven years.
So it is worth seeing a semi on 10 July - a match between experience of Federer and youth of Andy Murray

The second semi final to watch for is between arch rivals world no.1 American Serena Williams and world no.2 Russian Maria Sharapova.

Sharapova won her first Grand Slam against Serena Williams at Wimbledon some 11 years ago when she was just 17. Since then, both Serena and Sharapova have met 19 times, with the former winning 17 times. Sharapova is in her fifth Wimbledon semi-final, and her first since 2011.

As for the yet again aging but extremely resilient Serena, she is at the top of the world with her 20 Grand Slam titles and does not seem to be giving away any of her weakness to the Russian and reach the finals this year too. Recently crowned the French Open and earlier the Australian Open, she may demonstrate a superb game and may even get to the finals too.

So don't miss out the first critical semi final between Serena and Sharapova today live from the centre court of the Wimbledon.

Federer last won over Potro was at Indian Wells earlier this year when he beat heim 6-3 6-2 in the quarterfinals.

Watch Federer - Mahut (Court Philippe Chatrier) Roland Garros Third Round

Mahut [bottom] not sure his wife will support him in
his match  against Federer
Friday evening will witness a duel between World No.2 Swiss Roger Federer - the winner of 16 Grand Slams and who has recently equalled the record of american Jimmy Connors, and the 89th ranked Frenchman Nicolad Mahut as both players will step on Court Philippe Chatrier.

Today's match will witness divided loyalties as it is going to be a battle between a French and a Swiss. There is a joke in the air that Mahut is not even sure that his wife will be supporting him or the Swiss. Even Mahut himself has aired such concerns:
"I'm going to have a problem. My wife is a complete fan of Roger. And my family is as well. So I'm going to have to tell them not to make a mistake about the box [they sit in]. That's the first thing."
This will be the fourth encounter of Roger and Mahut. They have met at Wimbledon 2006, Indian Wells 2008 and Rotterdam 2012 - with Federer having a clear 3-0 edge over the Frenchman.

Federer is sailing smoothly so far, having lost onlyone of his last ten matches against Djokovic at Rome. He moves to the third round after beating Ungur in a rather tough match 6-3 6-2 6-7(6) 6-3.

Mahut on the other hand has 6-4 win-loss record. He last lost to T. Gabashvili 6-4 6-3 at CH Bordeaux (FRA). He beat Klizan in the second round to move on to the third round Friday today.

The match is scheduled for Friday, 1 June 2012 at 17:00 GMT on Court Philippe Chatrier.

Roger Federer vs Rafael Nadal: | Indian Wells Semi Final Saturday Night

Much to the delight and excitement of the tennis lovers, fans and players, the two tennis giants Rafeal Nadal and Roger Federer are head to head Saturday night in the second semi final of the night. The first semi final is being played between the defending champion Djokovic and 12th seeded american Inser tonight at 18:00 GMT.

Federer vs Nadal: The exciting semi final Saturday night
As for the semi final at the Indian Wells, California USA between Nadal and Federer, this is going to be something many wanted to happen - and it is here tonight.

Federer, the former world No. 1 easily overpowered 9th seeded Juan Martin del Potro 6-3 6-2 on Friday to become the first man to win 250 matches in Masters 1000 level tournaments. Incidently, both Federer and Potro were seeking their  20th victories of the year 2012. ANd the luck played in the favour of 16-time grand slam champion who won for the fourth time in 2012 against the man who beat him in the 2009 U.S. Open final. Although, Federer has been suffering from cold during the tournament, he overcame it and di not allow it to cast any shadow on his match against Potro.

On the other hand, Rafael Nadal had a rather difficult time with David Nalbandian, who clinched the second set from Nadal before finally losing to him the third set. nadal won 4-6 7-5 6-4 at the Indian Wells Masters on Friday. This win brings him face to face with Federer in the semi final of the Indian Wells tonight. This will be a rematch of Nadal and Federer's Australian Open semi-final.

Weather forecast for the Saturday night is not much favourable as rain and wind is in the forecast, beating the sun and rather warm temperatures that have prevailed during the two-week tournament.

Federer and Nadal have met 27 times with Nadal having won 18, including four of the last five. Federer on the other hand has improved to 37-2 with five titles since the U.S. Open. His other loss came in Davis Cup against American John Isner, who advanced to the other semifinal against top-ranked Novak Djokovic.

As for the Indian Wells, federer has won the title thrice while Nadal has won it twice. So quite naturally Nadal will be vying for a third time win, if he makes it to the final - but it is something Federer wouldn't want tonight and will try his best to shatter Nadal's dream of the third crown. Rather Federer himself would want to win the title fourth time, if he sails to the final. But would Nadal allow that?

We keep our fingers crossed and watch this exciting match tonight and I think the whole world be focusing on to semi final between Federer and Nadal rather than Djokovic and Inser.

The semi final between Federer and Nadal commences 19:30 GMT Saturday.

Watch Live: Roger Federer vs Milos Raonic at Indian Wells Wednesday 14 March

There is so much of sports going on around these days, that it is difficult to write about something else. And if one takes time out for something else, one may not be doing justice to entertainment which everyone so preciously wants as a time out from the bloody news of wars and political unrest and falling economies and rising oil prices. I for myself really want a time out. Instead of writing about horrors of wars or of people-fooling politicians, I am focusing on sports, which at least provide us respite from all other problems and conflicts, so long we keep watching sports, applauding sportsmen who put in their best to provide us healthy and lively entertainment. And whenever I get a time out of sports, travel brings me back to some of the most beautiful places of the world.

Besides Asia Cup Cricket being played in Dacca, and lots of football, there is tennis - a game that I personally like and played for long and I really love watching it in whatever form or wherever it is being played. And this bring me to the Indian Wells.

Federer vs Milos Raonic
What is being tipped as the toughest match of the ongoing Indian Wells, Federer faces a young but very powerful player, who is all set to take on stars like Federer.

Although Federer did not have much difficulty if taming Kudla Sunday night 6-4, 6-1, many believe that Milos Raonic is no Kudla and may entrench aging Federer to provide good enetrtainment to the fans on both sides of the net.

Even Federer has acknowledged Raonic's powerful serves and on his fitness syas, "Against a guy like this you’re obviously going to try to make it as athletic as possible." Which means that Raonic is in his best form, both physically and mentllay to give a tough ime to Federer.

Raonic too is eager to meet Federer, whom he missed meeting last year. For Raonic, this is a big day - palying against a sixteen times grand slammer and already three times Indian Wells winner in three straight years from 2004-2006.

The slow speed of the court may help Federer to control the speedy balls from raonic and have enough time to respond. On the other hand, Raonic due to his athletic physique may tire out Federer to gain time and win points.

The match will be played at Stadium 1, a big honour for Raonic for palying on such a prestigeous court perhaps for the first time in his life, at 02:00 GMT.

Today was a bad day for World Number 1 and the recently crowned Australian Open champion  Djokovic to step out of the winning race he was so sure to win today in Dubai.

Fourth seed Andy Murray tied down  Djokovic  to losing the match  6-2, 7-5.

Murray who has yet to win a Grand Slam and has lost the last seven of 11 meetings between the two 24-year-old tennis stars, ended Djokovic' streak at 10.

On the other hand Federer beat Potro in a difficult match 7-6 (5), 7-6 (6). Potro though lost, did play very well and made Federer sweat to win over him.

Federer vs Potro: Dubai Tennis Semi Final 2 March [ Free Live Streaming Links ]

By the time the second semi final this Friday begins between Federer and Potro, the first semi would be preferably over and decided who marches into the final of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship 2012. Many are speculating for Djokovic to rein in Murray, who may have tough time playing the defending champion due to his ailing knee.

However, the outcome of the second semi final between Federer and Potro would make it more interesting for the final.

Semis: Federer vs Potro
In yesterday's quarterfinals, Roger Federer beat Russia’s Mikhail Youzhny, 6-3, 6-4, while Del Potro dismantled his French counterpart Tsonga 7-6, 6-2.

Federer has had a good start this year as he won his first title of the year in Rotterdam and it will be tough day today to play a duel with the Argentinian Juan Martin Del Potro. Although, Potro is suffering from a wrist injury, he was able to oust Tsonga almost with good cursing, except for the first set which he won 7-6. He is likely to give Federer a tough time and may even overpower him, if luck favours him.

In the last six months, Federer has met Del Potro three times and won on all three occasions as well as winning all 7 sets they have competed against one another. Federer and Potro played up to today 11 Games. Last time Federer and Potro played a Match within the ATP Tournament was the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament played on Indoor Hard Court on 19th February last month.

Well then, who marches from this semi to the final will show up later today, when the man between the two commences 1500 GMT.

Dubai Tennis Championship Quarterfinals: Roger Federer vs Mikhail Youzhny [ Free Live Streaming ]

It is a busy day today at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championship 2012 at Dubai - it the day of quarterfinals. We have already written about the quarter final between Davis Cup teammates Novak Djokovic vs Janko Tipsarevic, which is going to be quite interesting since both know each other well - and what is more: Tipsarevic has beaten his fellow countryman Djokovic in the  round-robin stages of the ATP World Tour Finals in London in November 2011.

Then in another quarterfinal,  Juan Martin Del Potro and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga are facing each other.

But for now, let us concentrate on the quarterfinal between Roger Federer and Mikhail Youzhny, which is being played at 13:00 GMT.  For Federer, playing tennis is always emotional and any upset can hurt him out-rightly and visibly too. Federer last met Mikhail Youzhny in 2007 when he easily beat him. But that was five years ago. Just for a flashback, watch the highlights of the final set of 2007 Dubai Tennis Championship between Federer and Youzhny:

For Federer, the courts of Dubai will definitely favour as these are quicker this time and would allow Federer hitting smashes and moving the balls across the net with greater speed and force.

The Russian is good too, something that Federer also acknowledges. Youzhny has had good tennis in Dubai previously and has even made to the final some time back.

Who is going to win? Did I hear Federer? Let us wait and watch today Federer meeting Youzhny and see how 'old pals' meet, greet and play each other.
