26th March – Observe Earth Hour Tonight

All lights across the globe will be switched off from 8 PM to 9 PM to observe the earth Hour tonight. The world if seen from the space will start to go dark starting from Fiji Islands in the Pacific, New Zealand and Australia before making its way into Asia, Europe Africa, and the Americas. One can say it will be a gradual and timed black out to help conserve the environment.

The Earth Hour was initiated by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), some 45 years back to help conserve the environment for the future generations. Over the years, it has attracted almost all countries of the world to join hands to raise public awareness about conserving energy as energy production add pollution to the environment, which is badly affecting the nature and widening the ozone layer hole.

So join hand together with the rest of the world by switching over all lights of your house, premises, public places to help conserve the environment and nature. Many communities have made programmes to cook foods in candlelight and serve the guests on a candle lit dining table. Many a hotel has also planned to serve their customers in candle lit environment.

Many social networks and TV channels have volunteered to switch off their transmissions during the Earth Hour. As per one news, ABS-CBN and cartoon Network will cease transmission during the 60 minutes tonight. YouTube is planning to promote the Earth Hour by changing its logo, and by adding a switch on/off feature near the title of each video, so that users can change the background color from white to black.

These are some of the measures by world network giants – but the real input and contribution would come from common citizens who by switching off all their domestic lights can make a huge contribution in conserving the nature and environment. Even if you have a generator, do not put it on as it will still add to pollution. Change your outdoor programme and don’t use your car as its emission also pollutes environment. WALK, DON’T DRIVE and Eat in candlelight.
