Angelina Jolie consoles Pakistan flood victims

She is here once again – this time to visit the flood victims and share their grief. Dressed in a traditional long black robe and a black headscarf with no makeup, Angelina Jolie, the UN Ambassador of Goodwill, visited the flood victims of Khyber Pakhtunkhua province of Pakistan on 7th September 2010, besides the Afghan refugees and aid workers. She was deeply moved by the plight of the people in distress and the large scale devastation left by one of the worst floods in the history of mankind.

"I am very moved by them and I hope that I am able to, today and tomorrow, be able to do something to help bring attention to the situation for all of the people in need in Pakistan,” said Miss Jolie. She has herself donated US$100,000 to UNHCR for its assistance work in Pakistan already.

Miss Jolie, before coming to Pakistan, had been appealing the world community to help the Pakistani flood affected people and had promised to go to Pakistan on first available opportunity. In a video message on 31st August, Angelina Jolie appealed to the world conscious and said, "One-fifth of Pakistan is under water… and the threat of disease now looms for 20 million affected people. This is not just a humanitarian crisis; it is an economic and social catastrophe. UNHCR is on the ground. The more support we can give, the greater number of tents, food, clean water and medicine will get to the people in need."

It may be added here that Miss Jolie has visited Pakistan on three previous occasions since becoming a UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador in 2001.

“SALT” vying for Sugar

After her successful role in the recently released action packed film “SALT”, the daring actress Angelina Jolie has assumed her humanitarian role of the goodwill ambassador for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). The goodwill ambassador striving hard to generate fund and help for the grief stricken flood victims of Pakistan. She says she is doing the best she can to help the Pakistani flood victims. Pakistanis deal with “mass death, mass displacement,” she added, “and this situation is going to get worse.”
She is also likely to visit Pakistan, although the programme is yet to be finalized. But while that will be taken care of subsequently, she feels her presence at home is more important to mobilize people’s response towards the damage caused by the flash floods that have wreaked havouc throughout the length and breadth of Pakistan.
We wish Miss Jolie the best in her efforts to steer help for the rehabilitation of some 15 million people that need to go back where they had their house once. In most of the cases, due to the fast current of the floods, the houses and shops were washed away, leveling the property to literary nothing.
In the meantime, news has it that Miss Jolie is also getting braced for SALT-II to bring more action packed entertainment for her fans all over the world.
