Is Peace Synonymous to Quietness?

There has been an old saying that stillness and quietness is an indicator of storm – and how true this observation has been. Animals look scared and one does not hear any howling or braying – birds flock the sky and hover like ghosts before a storm sets in. So the apparent quietness or “peace’ is in fact holding a storm in waiting. Even humans can feel the hidden fear when they see unusual quietness.

In fact peace does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. Peace means to be in the midst of all those things and still be calm in your heart. That is the real meaning of peace. If we just look around, we find restlessness and uncertainty, but most of the people continue to go by their business of life as they did before as they feel that whatever is to come, it would, so there is no fun in worrying and shielding behind stone walls.

Ever looked at a gushing waterfall from a mountain? Amid splashing and roaring water, where no sane person would try to go any nearer, there would be small green bushes coming out majestically under the heavy downpour and growing everyday. It is the business of nature to go on – that’s real peace and essence of life.
